If the user lives in Southern California they can access SoCalFree.net. This is a free dial up service for Southern California residents and provides local access numbers to many different areas. The user can look up the access numbers on the website to find an access number close to them. SoCalFree.net provides unlimited web surfing and it really is free. There are not any gimmicks with this one. The free dial up internet service does not offer technical support and does not support sites that have a large bandwidth. This enables them to keep costs low so the service can remain free. The service does support instant messaging with Yahoo, AIM, and MSN. They do not have their own email accounts so if the user requires email they will need to sign-up with a free email service. They do not monitor the user's internet activity so the service is Spyware free, nor do they share the user's personal information with other companies. SoCalFree.net has been in business since 1988 under a grant program that covers most of their costs and they plan on maintaining the site for a very long time. They used their grant to start-up this free dial up internet service for those users who are not on the internet enough in a month's time to make the monthly fees of other ISPs worth it to them and also for those user's who financially cannot afford the monthly fee major ISPs charge. SoCalFree.net is a community service internet company that has a parent company called Telemessage. In fact, people who choose to subscribe to their voice mail service will be indirectly supporting SoCalFree.net. SoCalFree.net provides free dial up to teachers and active duty military personnel. An added bonus for active duty military personnel is that they can receive free voice mail service as well with Telemessage's USNavy Phone Service. The service can be signed up for at SoCalFree.net or the user can contact them by phone. This is a great service available from people who care.
