November 17, 2006, Newsletter Issue #39: Next to free internet service with Copper.net.

Tip of the Week

If a consumer is looking for a free dial up isp with a free dial up accelerator they might want to try Copper.net. The service is next to free with a 3-month trial for only $1.00. It includes high speed internet access, access numbers for the United States and Canada, junk mail controls, 200 hours of access per month, one email address, and additional addresses can be added for $1.00 each. The fine print states that sessions will terminate after a 5-hour maximum usage limit per day and will disconnect after 10 minutes of idleness. The service can be signed up for online and paid be credit card or check each month. Do not let the usage time scare you, the average internet user falls far under the 200 hour limit per month for any ISP. Once the 90-day trial period is up the consumer may cancel the account at any time and if not then a monthly fee of $9.95 will apply. If the service is paid a year in advance it reduces the monthly cost to $6.97 per month. So it is not free, but their trial period is close to it.
