September 28, 2007, Newsletter Issue #83: Analog to digital converters are necessary for communicating between a dial up connection and PC.

Tip of the Week

Those who choose to use a Dial-Up connection are in need of an analog device that can convert analog to digital. The device is necessary in order to provide the handshaking that takes place between the phone line and the computer. The phone line is an analog signal and the computer is a digital signal. The modem will process the digital information going out and the analog information coming in at speeds each can handle. The faster the modem the faster the conversion of data. However, always remember that different times of day are more hectic than others for data transmission so regardless of the speed of the analog to digital converter the speeds will vary tremendously.
